The Student Guidelines document came out of a community-wide desire for an equitable and effective model that precepting and student midwives could utilize in forming and managing their relationships. The document is the result of a process of collaboration between midwives and students in the Minnesota midwifery community. It is meant to serve as a resource to midwives who wish to train students, and to aspiring students, as they set their intentions in working together on an educational pathway. It is a guide to best practices, and is a living document that can and will be updated and revised as our community gains experience in nurturing successful midwife-student relationships.
The MSLC was born out of the Student Guidelines document as a safe space for midwives and students to find support in navigating negotiations and processing challenges. It is our greatest hope that the Committee will become a valuable resource in promoting healthy interpersonal and professional relationships in our community.
